Troubleshooting Student Chromebook Connectivity Issues (Primary/Middle)

Oh, no! A student or students are telling you that their Chromebooks aren't automatically connecting to our wireless network!

Before you submit a ticket, try the following steps with the affected devices. (Note that this fix will not work on the high school side, as of 4/2025)

  1. Shut down and restart the affected devices. Simply closing Chromebook lids isn't necessarily a shutdown. It's important to reset the Wi-Fi adapter and connection in order to more easily connect devices to our network.
  2. Select the SI-Guest network. This network allows devices to connect in order to update any key items, such as new network passwords. A connection must be established in order to propagate any changes.
  3. Allow up to 60 seconds before signing in as usual. Once a connection is established and any updates are downloaded and made, the Chromebook will change networks and obtain a connection through the expected Wi-Fi network, which is SI-Chromebooks.

Additionally, if the SI-Guest connection doesn't work after a reboot, you may elect to toggle the device's Wi-Fi functionality off for about 5-10 seconds before toggling it on again. This refreshes the Wi-Fi adapter and available connections and can sometimes help in getting up and running.

If this process fails to resolve the issue, please submit a ticket as usual. A member of our team will respond as soon as possible.
